Hestia vs mrmpanel
Both are free. Only one is something you should run for paying sites today. That one is Hestia.
Different machines
HestiaCP is a classic hosting stack: Nginx or Apache, PHP-FPM, Exim/Dovecot, MariaDB, optional vsftpd. It grew out of Vesta and is what a lot of small hosts actually use. Debian/Ubuntu. No license fee. Community support.
mrmpanel assumes a fresh Alma/Rocky/RHEL 9–10 or Ubuntu 24.04 box, installs Docker, puts Traefik in front, and runs each site hostname in its own container. WordPress, Laravel, Node, and Python are first-class, not plugins bolted onto PHP.
| Hestia | mrmpanel | |
|---|---|---|
| Best OS | Debian / Ubuntu | Ubuntu 24.04 or RHEL clones |
| Web model | Shared web stack | One container per hostname |
| Node / Python apps | Possible, not the point | Built-in stacks |
| Exim + Dovecot, well known | docker-mailserver + Roundcube | |
| Stability | Production | Experimental (own warning) |
| License | GPL | MIT |
Pick Hestia if
- You are hosting client WordPress sites this month.
- You want mail that thousands of admins have already debugged.
- You prefer apt packages over composing Docker stacks.
Pick mrmpanel if
- You want Docker isolation and mixed runtimes (PHP + Node + Python).
- The server is empty and disposable.
- You are helping test the panel, not betting rent on it.
Do not mix them
Neither installer is designed to share a box with the other, or with cPanel, Plesk, Webmin, or a random nginx you already configured. Fresh OS image. One panel. That is the rule for both.
Next: Contabo, Hostinger, or InterServer. Also: CyberPanel, aaPanel, panel map.
